Mozart - Kissed by the Muse
To create is to practice
being all at play.
Who to play with?
Commissioned by Martina Toifl, Director of “The Mozart Hotel” in Salzburg, a hospitable house by Heym Collections, this project captures the essence of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, not merely through his music, but through the silent interludes between the notes.
In the genesis of creation, there exists darkness and silence, essential elements in any creative endeavor. Pia Clodi's photographic project, "Mozart - Kissed by the Muse," embarked from this very silence. Collaborating with Leica Studios London and supported by Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Head of Leica Galleries, Clodi and her artistic team, including Diva Borrelli, Pearl Collins, Vincenzo della Volpe, Emanuel Miranda, and André Teixeira, delved into the depths of this silence to unveil the essence of creativity.
Through "Mozart - Kissed by the Muse," Clodi captures the essence of creativity, the delicate interplay between chaos and order, darkness and light, sound and silence, offering viewers a glimpse into the mysterious world of artistic inspiration.
„Music isn't in the notes, but the silence between.“
— Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
I need silence.
In Clodi's work, the Muse, a figure deeply ingrained in our collective imagination, takes center stage. She is the embodiment of inspiration, the force driving creation. Through Clodi's lens, the Muse is depicted as both a part of Mozart's identity and its antithesis, offering order amidst the chaos of his genius.
The photographs capture a solitary masculine figure, the Austrian composer, immersed in a milky atmosphere, grappling with the demons of creation. He yearns for the presence of the Muse, craving her blessed kiss of inspiration to rescue him from his despair.
The artist and his double, almost identical, are portrayed in black and white, symbolizing the opposition between chaos and order, confusion and clarity. While the composer is enveloped in darkness, the Muse brings forth the light of vision, dressed in white like a goddess.
The swirling dance of the Muse, reminiscent of classical iconography, and the translucent range of colors create an atmosphere where time seems suspended, allowing the patron goddess of invention to reveal herself in all her grace and wisdom.
